After the project proposal, we were to go comment on the
other proposals of our peers. I think that this helped us in a sense realize
that we are not the only ones that are confused about this subject but also to
bounce back and forwards positives feedback to help get on the right track to
writing this paper.
Below are some of the peer’s inquiry’s topics I responded
to. I listed the basic topic next to
their name and my response is below it.
Brooke Chrisco, Jacob lewis, Kenneth, Sisk Chris Hultgren
and Casey Smith
On Conformity- by Kenneth Sisk
I find this topic very unique. Actually me ex boyfriend and
I used to have this discussion all the time. Conformity to me in modern society
is imperative to an extent. Without some sort of social norms, we would have
chaos. As far as the iPhone goes, I agree and disagree. This invention is very
user friendly. I had a droid for a long time because I didn't want to conform
to the social norm of the iPhone. I wanted something different. But when I
started downloading apps, my entire droid shut down. I later came to fid out
that Droids don't possess the capacity to hold anything downloadable. So the
makers place the applications on there, so that you think you can download
these apps when the phone as a whole simply doesn't have the technological
capacity. Also the Droid expiration date only last a year, however the service
provider usually makes them have the phone for two. I spent countless hours in
the Verizon store trying to figure out why my phone was yet again not working
when I had not damaged it in any possible way. Of course the service provider
came up with the excuse, oh well this was a defect phone, when in reality it
was just a horrible programmed device. Needless to say, I switched to the
iPhone 4. I have had no problems since getting this phone. I agree when it
comes to the iPhone 4 versus the iPhone 5 however, sometime conformity isn't
about fitting in, it's about everyone finding a new device that user friendly.
So maybe you can use that as a counter argument in your paper.
Watching TV during adolescent years- Brooke Chrisco
I
find this topic very interesting. I think that a TV can help and impair a young
adolescent mind. I also think that excessive TV can lead to obesity. I have
heard that when you watch a video you are burning less calories than when you
sleep. I feel that unless the TV is somehow engaging a young child' s mind,
such as a lot of the new children's shows today, it is hurting the child's
development. I feel that they are becoming dependent at a very young age to the
TV.
On propaganda and Hitler-Jacob Lewis
I find this topic
very fascinating. I think that it's interesting how people can come up with
slogans and pictures that can influence people's minds without them even
knowing it. I read the book animal farm, which is entire about propaganda, so
maybe that can help you on your proposal.
Online culture Groups-Chris Hultgren
I think that this topic is a very deep and complex topic. It
is hard enough to grasp a culture that has been around for thousands of years,
much less 100. However, I think that this very news now topic and I am
interested to see what you find. From my previous knowledge, I know that the Internet
started to affect cultures as a whole in the mid 1990s. Then from there new
online cultures started to evolve. When I think of different culture groups
through the virtual world, one kind of transforming culture comes to my mind.
That would be the dating world online. I think that online dating sites have
kind of formed their own culture online and because of this new outlet we view
dating in a different way. Within this new realm of the dating world, various
cultures evolve such has the Christian dating group and the single parent
dating sites. It's curious how new cultures are forming via internet came to be
and how they are becoming more important than some culture groups in the real
world.
Coach’s language affects the athletes- Casey Smith
I think that this topic is an on
going issue that still needs to be discussed today. I am a coach so I kind of
have some personal experience behind this topic. I think that a coach's word is
imperative to the success in a child's sport development. You can be to easy on
the child yet you shouldn't shout horrible words. They have to feel comfortable
and motivated. If all you do is yell at a child, then they are going to never
think that they are any good. I've learned to be really loud and celebrate with
the good but when the bad comes I have a stern lowered down (not yelling) voice
that keeps the cussing out of it. I feel that this is an affective way to
approach things.
